About the AGA
The Australian Galloway Association is the premier body for registering Galloway cattle in Australia. Supporting over 200 stud, commercial and junior Members, the Australian Galloway Association offers secure herd book registrations for Galloways, Belted Galloways and Miniature Galloways. The Association was incorporated in Victoria in July 1998, taking over the operations of the Galloway Cattle Society of Australia, which was formed at Sydney on 8 March 1951 by the importers of the first officially recorded Galloway cattle into Australia.
The herd book registrations are carried out by ABRI, the Agricultural Business Research Institute located at the University of New England, Armidale; the leading herd book registration institution in Australia and respected worldwide for providing software services to agricultural industries. The Association’s herd book is online and available for public viewing, allowing interested breeders the ability to easily research bloodlines. Click here to search the Herd Book.
Members of the Association are spread across all states, so there is generally someone who is close by who can help with cattle queries, or to just have a chat to about Galloway cattle. As with the herd book, a search of Association Members can be carried out to find someone located close to you – click here. On-farm field days and workshops are run in various regions, along with online webinars and Members’ forums. The Association encourages all Members to participate in these events and also to be actively involved in promoting the Galloway breed through showing, field days and carcass competitions. These are great opportunities for networking and meeting other Galloway enthusiasts and promoting Galloway cattle.
The Australian Galloway Association employs an Executive Officer who is available on Mondays and Wednesdays to deal exclusively with Members’ queries and registrations. A Management Committee, consisting of up to nine members who are elected for three-year terms, is entrusted with the responsibility of administering and running the Association. It is responsible for making rules and regulations and the supervision of the day-to-day administrative requirements of the Association. All Committee Members are readily available for support and advice.
